5 Healthy Skin Habits to Cultivate This Summer

Summer might be particularly welcome this year. But just because you’re ready for days in the sun doesn’t mean your skin is. In fact, the sun’s ultraviolet (UV) rays take a serious toll on your skin, causing everything from dryness to dark spots and wrinkles. That makes the summer months a particularly important time to take steps to protect your skin health.

As a skin rejuvenation specialist, Dr. Wade McKenna helps people at The Cell Spa get their healthiest skin possible. While we offer a broad range of skin-health-boosting treatments at our office in Trophy Club, Texas, you can also take some steps at home to keep your skin looking and feeling its best.

To protect your skin from the sun this summer — and to enjoy your healthiest skin for years to come — make these five skin habits part of your routine.

1. Wear sunscreen

Sunscreen is one of your best defenses against skin aging. Not only does that mean that sunscreen helps your skin look its best through the years, but it also prevents serious issues like skin cancer.

You should get in the habit of wearing sunscreen all year, but that’s particularly important in the summer. Develop a habit of applying sunscreen before you leave the house for the day, and apply new layers of SPF as needed throughout the day to keep your skin safe.

2. Moisturize

Keeping your skin hydrated helps it maintain its moisture barrier, its main line of defense against outside irritants. Plus, moisturized skin looks dewy and youthful.

Make it a habit to apply moisturizer in the morning and at night. If your skin is particularly dry, you may want to stash some facial moisturizer in your bag to refresh it throughout the day.

Here’s a little tip from Dr. McKenna to make your life easier: For your morning moisturizer, choose an option that has SPF. That way, you can give your skin the moisture and sun protection it needs in a single step.

3. Eat healthy and drink lots of water

Your skin is your body’s largest organ, so it’s not surprising that it gets affected by your overall well-being. For the best, healthiest skin possible, eat a nutritious, balanced diet.

Also, drink plenty of water. This is another way to safeguard your skin’s moisture barrier.

4. Skip cigarettes

If you’ve been looking for another reason to quit, consider your skin. Smoking dramatically affects your skin health

5. Get regular skin treatment

Don’t wait until you have deep wrinkles or serious dark spots to explore your skin-rejuvenation treatment options. Starting early can help you maintain healthy, youthful-looking skin all summer long — and through the years.

We can help you determine the right time to choose treatment to support your skin health. To enjoy your best skin this summer, call our team at The Cell Spa or request your appointment online today.
